At 21:00 on Thursday 29th July 2010 Thousands of opera fans are expected to converge on Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park for the annual summer open air opera in the park, hosted by the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality and the Israeli opera.
This summer's presentation, Carmen by Bizet, based on Franco Zeffirelli's production at the Metropolitan Opera New York, will take place on Thursday, 29 July 2010 at 21:00. The opera will be sung in French, with surtitles in English and Hebrew.
Carmen tells the story of the free-spirited gypsy Carmen who runs away from prison, falls in love with the toreador and is murdered by her former lover.
Conducted by David Stern, directed by Gad Shechter and with Rinat Shaham as Carmen, Scott Piper as Don Jose and Vladimir Braun as Escamillo, the production also features the Israel Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the Young Bat Kol Choir and the Neta Shezaf Flamenco Dance Theater.
Members of the audience are invited to take their seats from 19:00 – either on the lawn or on the free seating.
Entrance to the event is free of charge.
